Trees are essential to our wellbeing for a whole raft of reasons.

The main one that pops to mind, is the simple fact that they provide all the oxygen we breathe on this planet.

We humans have had a love affair with trees since time began.
The relationship we have with trees is deep and intertwined, if we look after them, they look after us.

Trees have long been appreciated for their aesthetic qualities and stunning beauty. For these reasons, as well as many others then, trees enhance the look of our homes and property and parks.

As a homeowner or property owner, we are responsible for the care of the green spaces, that we own.

We take good care of our homes and properties, by carrying out regular maintenance, fixing leaks, repairing roofs, and redecorating, but we must equally pay attention to the trees in our gardens and green spaces.

Trees can cause problems too. We often hear of neighbors complaining of trees which are lifting up sidewalks, dropping needles in gutters or branches falling in high winds and storms, causing damage to property and vehicles.

Tree care is often a low priority in our home budgeting.

As our trees invariably grow over the passing of time, this can lead to situations where trees have been neglected for some years and then become a problem instead of an asset.
As we all know, in Arizona we suffer frequent storms, which can bring down branches and even whole trees causing destruction to our property.

With a little preventive maintenance, most of these issues can be avoided.

After storms we find, as tree trimming professionals, we are called upon to correct problems that should've been addressed many years ago.
All too often, this results in us having to drastically cut back trees and branches which not only destroys the natural beauty of the tree, but may take even more years to grow back so as to produce a symmetrical, aesthetically pleasing tree.

Overtime, these drastic measures in correcting infrequent tree care, ends up costing us more over the long term.

Obviously seeing into the future and being able to forsee whats coming with the weather patterns that may cause damage to our trees, would be a massive advantage!

However, we will know this is not possible. So, the best way forward is to manage your trees, by means of or regular tree care and maintenance. In the long run this will save us money.

This regular tree care and maintenance, includes the correct type of pruning, right time of year in which to carry out the work, and expert knowledge of how to manage our trees correctly.

Over the years at Tree Trimming Chandler, we have found an increasing number of our clients ready to pay good money to do whatever it takes to make their trees healthy.
However, we have found more often than not, that the advice we dispense does not involve spending vast amounts of money.

At Tree Trimming Chandler we like to keep things simple...

Like all living things, trees only really need three basic things to survive and thrive.

Water

Many of us have grown to believe that large trees roots grow down to the water table, and therefore don't need any extra watering.
However, it is important to understand that most of the large trees root systems, only reach as deep as maybe 18 inches from the surface.
Some types of trees need more water than others so you may need to understand the needs of your particular tree variety.
Ideally, irrigation needs to be monitored and if we dig down to see if the waters penetrating the root system, we will find out what the reality is.

All too often we see a drip system that is okay for our plants but when we dig down a few inches, we find it bone dry.
The thing that is not common knowledge is that the most important roots for absorbing water in a tree, are the root tips, right at the end of the tree root system.
I
f we're only watering around the trunk area this is not really help getting water fed to the tree, best practices to water out and away from the trunk.

On the opposite end of the scale, overwatering can be a problem to if the soil is so hard, that the water doesn't soak down to the roots.

How do we know if the water is getting to the correct parts of the root system?
By digging a hole and filling it with water and wait to see if it seeps through. If the water sits there overnight, you have a very hard soil system and it can make things tough on the tree.

Air

Just as important as water is oxygen in the soil.
Any soil beneath the tree that becomes compacted from either roads or houses or buildings, is a soil system that is very difficult for roots to develop in.

If this soil becomes compacted due to the above reasons, then the overall health of the tree will decline over time.

Having sufficient air in the soil also ties in with good water retention. Having a good consistent soil matrix, helps with the overall vibrancy and life expectancy of a tree.

B
y keeping everything balanced, we maintain the lifecycle of a tree, which absorbs carbon dioxide through its leaves and produces oxygen back into the atmosphere for us to braid.
We must not underestimate and appreciate how important it is to allow a tree the space it needs to thrive and how we can help to protect the roots and soil structure.

As urban areas increase in footprint, construction damage from soil compaction is the main cause of decline and death of trees, in a large part of our towns and cities.

Food

When we talk about food for tree, we're not really talking about giving it food, what we mean is, the natural process of photosynthesis, which is the process of the tree leaves converting sunlight into sugars.

A healthy tree does a pretty good job of looking after itself.

Problems occur when we sometimes over trim trees or cut them in a way, that reduces the overall leaf canopy to a lesser amount than what the tree needs to sustain itself.

What any tree needs is to be able to gather enough sunlight through its leaf canopy. To provide everything it needs to maintain a healthy life.

Therefore, removing too many branches and leaves can be a detriment to any trees development.
Equally over trimming the tree can cause long-term decline.
The main thing to take away here is, careful tree management and pruning which will allow the fullest possible tree canopy to develop, which will allow the tree to grow through its natural process of sunlight absorption.

Fertilizers are sometimes needed to help out with the tree that is suffering. We can discuss these situations, once we've assessed the overall health of your trees.

Another thing we often see at Tree Trimming Chandler, is that gardeners and homeowners can be overzealous when it comes to removing the leaves that full to the ground.
The important thing to realize here is, we need to understand how leaf drop aids the soil.

All too often gardeners blow away all the leaves which in effect is natural mulch, when they really should be allowed to remain where they are so as to improve the soil.

This may not always be possible, but if we keep in mind what a tree really needs, rather than what looks nice, we often find this can create a more-healthy environment for all trees to thriving.

Tree Removal

Tree removal it's the simple process of removing a dead or dangerous tree from our gardens.

Typically, the tree will be cut as close to the ground as possible, leaving just the stump portion.
In some areas of our garden, this would be perfectly acceptable to leave behind for aesthetic reasons, however, in other areas it may cause a tripping hazard or just generally be the way. Therefore, stump grinding and/or stump removal may be needed.

Tree stump grinding

Stump grinding, refers to the grinding of the remaining tree stump into chips of wood, known as mulch.
This is carried out with specialist equipment which we will bring on-site.
Normally stump grinding is done to just below soil surface, leaving the portion of the stump that's underground remaining. This does not include that portion of the stump which is below ground.

Tree stump grinding when replanting is required.

This is the same method as used above, except the machinery will excavate deeper into the soil to remove the whole stump and local tree root area.
This simply allows another tree to be planted near the site of the removed tree.

Cut wood left behind or removed.

Having had a tree cut down, the remaining wood is normally cut into firewood and left on site for future removal.
Tree Trimming Chandler are always happy to discuss what you would like done with the remaining wood. What needs to be remembered is that large tree trunk portions, are often immovable in one piece unless split into smaller logs which can be moved or removed from site.

Whether to have wood removed or not, is a common theme that often causes confusion between homeowners and ourselves, therefore it's best if we discuss your wishes from the outset.

Don't forget any word that is reduced to mulch can be used throughout your garden and is very useful to the health of your trees shrubs and other plants.
